ONE LIFE

A PARTY GAME

INFINITE POSSIBILITIES

About the game

Welcome to One Life

A game where you compete against your friends to see who can be the last person with One Life.  You know – like in video games, only with cards and in person instead!

Who is this game for?  This game can be played and won by ANYBODY.   We’ve tried to build a well rounded game that has different styles of play and a wide variety of themes.  We’ve had players as young as 7 and old as 72 play the game and enjoy it.

How many people can play this game?  It’s designed for 3-10 players of any age.  The app limit is 20 players.  Really, it can be played by as many people as you want.  It’s scalable for small or large groups – you just adjust the amount of cards each player starts with.

How long does it take to play the game?  It’s about a 30 minute game for 4 people.  The rules are flexible enough to play a shorter or longer game as desired by adjusting the number of One Life each player starts with.

How do you win the game?  The game ends when there is only one player left with any of their Life Cards – hence the name One Life!

Our story

HOW IT STARTED…

One Life was created in a sports bar.  I was having drinks with my wife after shopping in our neighborhood.  She had just bought a set of cards with pictures of bird feathers on them.  Not playing cards mind you, just cardboard with feathers.  This purchase made little sense to me, but to each their own…  I asked myself what deck of cards I would want to buy.  Thus was born a game I originally called Man Card!  The name came from the phrase “Lose your man card.”  I thought it would be funny to have a competitive debate game where players “lost their man card”.  I love competition and I love games.  So I started thinking of the various categories to build a game around.  Over about 9 months of creating, testing, and iterating, the final game design was ready.

After selling an initial print run of the game, I realized the name was holding it back.  Many people weren’t familiar with the phrase “Lose A Man Card”.  Some thought it meant women couldn’t play (not the case).  So I decided to rebrand it after explaining the rules to a young kid who thought the cards you lose were like lives in a video game.  I wish I could thank that kid – he was just a random customer learning my game at a market I was selling it at!

OUR GOAL…

I wanted to create a game that would create conversation among friends and families.  Each category is designed to do just that in unique and fun ways.  Everyone is going to like certain categories more than others.  I hope you enjoy them.  I hope you tweak the rules to suit whatever your group wants to enjoy.  I hope that some people realize the One Life cards are just fancy versions of poker chips and act accordingly.  Win or lose, I hope you have fun talking about the prompts this game provides.

Oh – and if you are wondering what the heck “ticcio” is and how to pronounce it….  It stands for “This is cool, check it out.”  and it’s rhymes with “glitchy bro”.  The hope and plan is to bring more things to the masses that are cool and that you should definitely check out!
